Do Not Call Registry
The Do Not Call Registry is a service provided by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) in the United States that allows consumers to register their phone numbers to reduce the number of unwanted telemarketing calls they receive.
Consumers can register their landline and mobile phone numbers on the Do Not Call Registry by visiting the FTC's website, calling the registry hotline at 1-888-382-1222, or mailing in a request. Once a number is registered, telemarketers are required by law to stop calling that number within 31 days.
The Do Not Call Registry applies to telemarketers who sell products or services, but it does not cover political calls, charitable solicitations, or calls from businesses with which the consumer has an existing business relationship.
The FTC enforces the National Do Not Call Registry and can impose fines on telemarketers who violate the rules. Consumers can report violations to the FTC, and the agency investigates complaints and takes action against violators.
The Do Not Call Registry helps consumers reduce the number of unwanted telemarketing calls, saving time and reducing frustration. It also helps to protect consumers from potential scams and identity theft.
While the Do Not Call Registry is effective in reducing unwanted telemarketing calls, it does not eliminate them entirely. Some telemarketers may continue to call registered numbers, and it may take up to 31 days for calls to stop after registration.
